Artist Statement

Drenth's representational paintings explore subject matter ranging from the human figure to landscapes and still life. He implements techniques such as drawing and uses composition and color in order to evoke emotions. Drenth's paintings are like an exchange between the artist, the subject and viewer - a conversation about the underlying facets of the objects under observation. For inspiration Drenth looks to contemporary artist like Andrew Wyeth, Lucian Freud, and Wayne Thiebaud, and to past maters like Vilhelm Hammershoi, Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, and many others.
