The School of Education and Graduate Studies
The essential function of the Division of Education and Psychology is to identify individuals who are qualified for the teaching profession and to provide the student who plans to teach or to enroll in courses leading to the baccalaureate degree with a solid foundation in Education or Psychology. It is the major purpose of the Division to assist that student in developing the varied skills needed in Education and Psychology to become a successful professional by giving that student mastery of the methodology and subject matter for State certification at the elementary and secondary level. These goals can best be accomplished by having the student:
- gain an understanding of the experiences, materials, and techniques through which children grow and develop;
- develop a scholarly mastery of fields of major interest and the concept of critical thinking;
- understand and appreciate the functions of the school and its relation to society; and
- develop an understanding of the major theories of learning and their implications as they relate to classroom practice.
