Art Department

Majors in Art and Art Education

The Department of Art prepares students for careers in:
  • Teaching Art in K-12 classrooms (B.S. in Art Education). Program options include a major in Art Education or K-12 Certification.
  • Studio arts including drawing, printmaking, painting, ceramics and photography.
  • Arts-related businesses and industry such as graphic design, commercial art or digital design.
A hallmark of the department is individual attention from faculty working directly with each student to ensure quality learning and tailor the learning experience to fit the student's career goals.
Gallery ExhibitionStudents have numerous opportunities for not only hands on learning but real experience in the art world and beyond. For example, through the VCSU Community School of the Arts, students have the opportunity to gain experience in the classroom and practice their teaching skills – a great asset particularly for students in Art Education. The Department also offers a student-run professional art gallery that provides opportunities for public exhibitions.
The Department supports the institutional mission in instructional technology while recognizing the departmental role in encouraging individual expression, enriching the human experience, and cultivating an artistic community.
Heard on the PrairieThrough frequent exhibitions, art sales, and participation in campus and community activities, the Department also makes important contributions to the cultural environment of the region.
