Excellent facilities are available for students of science including well-equipped classrooms, a greenhouse for work in biology or botany, a planetarium, and laboratories for biology, chemistry, earth science, physics and photography. Unique opportunities for undergraduate research are available in our aquatic macroinvertebrate and toxicology laboratories – an outstanding asset for students considering graduate work or a career in a commercial laboratory. Programs feature a strong outdoor and field emphasis, and many classes involve field study in local areas. Special scholarships are available for students planning to enroll in a major of mathematics or science.

Biology (B.A., B.S.)

This major prepares students either for entry level positions in such areas as laboratories, hospitals, government, or industry, or for further study in professional areas such as Chiropractics, dentistry, or research.

Biology Education (B.S. in Ed.)

Prepares students to teach biology in secondary schools (with selection of appropriate electives, students should be able to teach other subjects as well), pursue graduate or professional programs (such as medicine, dentistry, nursing, or optometry), or for entry level positions in areas such as laboratories, hospitals, government, or industry. A B.S. in Ed. requires completion of the Professional Education Sequence - Secondary.

Chemistry (B.A., B.S.)

Students who major in chemistry have a variety of options including careers as laboratory scientists or further study in pre-professional programs or other graduate-level studies. Graduates have been placed in such roles as radiochemistry tech, lab tech, and water treatment operator.

Our Health Science major has established itself with an excellent reputation. It is designed for students wishing to pursue a degree at professional or graduate school in any of several health science disciplines such as Chiropractic, dentistry, medicine, nursing, or many others.

Fisheries & Wildlife Science (B.A., B.S.)

This innovative program prepares students for careers in wildlife and fisheries management with such public or private agencies as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, Environmental Protection Agency, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and the Nature Conservancy. Students are also prepared for higher academic degrees. The curriculum includes a substantial amount of work in the field.
