Science Specialist, Division of Learning and Instruction, South Dakota Department of Education
Sam has served as the South Dakota State Science Education Specialist for over three years. His role as a specialist within the Department of Education allows him to stay informed and consult with parties involved in research and initiatives in K-20 science education.
His current operations include advising state and national grants, implementing statewide professional development and laying a foundation for a STEM network. Sam also led South Dakota’s Next Generation Science Standards work as a lead state.
Director of Public Education and Conservation with The Biomimicry Institute
Sam works with educators from schools, musea, aquaria, zoos, environmental centers; as well as media on inspiring and educating the next generation of people about biomimicry. He also assists corporations and inventors conserve nature’s growth.
Before TBI, Sam worked as wildlife field biologist in the Philippines; biodiversity conservation consultant for The Nature Conservancy, World Bank, Conservation International, and World Wildlife Fund, and Fellow with the National Science Foundation as science curricula developer.
