Human Services Program

Do you want a degree that helps you give back to your community?
Are you interested in a degree that can help you grow both personally and professionally?
Have you ever been told that you’re a “people-person” or a “good listener”?

If you’ve said yes to any of the following questions – a degree in Human Services can help you achieve your goals.

Our Human Services program at VCSU is unique to both North Dakota and the region. Choose how you want to market yourself to prospective employers and graduate programs by selecting a concentration option that fits your interests and goals – general, criminal justice, or gerontology. We continue to create new classes and concentrations that fit both student and employer demands.

You’ll have a wide range of classes, volunteering opportunities, and applied experiences that help prepare you for many career options. We take pride in our internships, which go beyond just “clocking in hours.” Students get a focused experience – we work with you to find a location that connects with your future goals and provides marketable skills. There are many wonderful internship experiences that have resulted in job offers and ongoing opportunities to connect with others in the field.

Another appeal of a human services degree is the broad range of career opportunities it provides. Our recent graduates have found employment as parole officers, case managers, probation officers, directors of residential facilities, personnel specialists at various agencies, and paraprofessionals in K-12 schools. Some of our graduates also decide to continue their education in graduate school.
