Graichen Gym is the home to the Volleyball team, housing both practices and home games. Some physical education classes are held here.
The lower level houses a cardio fitness and strength facility that includes treadmills, elliptical cross-training machines, exercise bikes,
a stairclimber and individual strength machines. The facility is available to all students, and faculty and staff may take advantage of
the facility by purchasing a fitness room membership. Graichen also houses the nurse's office, which is open from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm. All
health services are free to students in this office.
Graichen Gym, originally built in 1923, was named for Charlotte Graichen, a Physical Education teacher who was at VCSU from 1938 until her
retirement in 1976. Though the facility retains its historic atmosphere, it received a major update during the summer of 2004 that added a
lobby area, elevator, rest rooms, and second stair well to the north end of the building providing an emergency egress and making both levels
accessible to the handicapped. In 2005, the fitness center described above was added.
