"Valley City State University has earned either the No. 1 or No. 2 spot among the Top Public Regional Colleges in the Midwest in each of the last 5 years in America's Best Colleges by U.S. News Media Group. This marks the 16th year in a row that VCSU has been recognized as a ‘Best College’ by U.S. News.
Recognition at Valley City State University is formally approached from many different perspectives: peer-to-peer, student-to-employee,and management-to-employee. Valley City State University intentionally recognizes and fiscally supports formal recognition by the following approaches:

The award is given annually to a professor who shows dedication to the students of VCSU through innovative teaching methods and continued professional development both inside and outside of the classroom.

This award provides opportunity for staff members to recognize their peers 24 times over the course of the year. The award is by nomination to receive a small monetary award for demonstrating an immediate action or behavior reflecting the core values of VCSU:
