Residence Life Graduate Assistant Positions

Valley City State University has launched a new initiative that will provide hands on, real world experiences to students in graduate programs relating to Student Affairs. Three graduate assistants will be hired for the 2017-2018 academic year and will report to the Director of Residence Life. Two of the positions will focus on residence life with emphasis on community development and student leadership and engagement and one position will focus on diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusion. We welcome the opportunity to work with graduate students in online or hybrid graduate programs related to, but not limited to: student affairs, educational leadership, and counseling.

Student Leadership and Engagement

This is a live in position that will report to the Director of Residence Life. The position will include night and weekend hours equating to approximately 20 hours/week. This position will be responsible for advising the student leadership society on campus, training for our Viking Crew orientation leaders, providing programs that allow students to participate in service activities on campus and within the community, plan and implement recreational and education programs in the residence halls and collaborate with other campus organizations to plan events. This position will also assist with the resident assistant selection process from recruitment to selection and training. This position will assist the Director of Residence Life with regular office functions. This position will also be responsible for supervising resident assistant staff in 1-2 buildings and will rotate on call weekends and with other live on staff.

Community Development

This is a live in position that will report to the Director of Residence Life. The position will include some night and weekend hours equating to approximately 20 hours/week. This position will be responsible for creating and implementing a programming model for the residence halls that will be carried out by the resident assistants. This position will advise the hall council, foster collaborative relationships with other clubs and organizations on campus, plan and implement programs in the residence halls, and maintain all social media accounts. This position will also assist with the resident assistant selection process from recruitment to selection and training. This position will assist the Director of Residence Life with regular office functions. This position will also be responsible for supervising resident assistant staff in 1-2 buildings and will rotate on call weekends and with other live on staff.

Multiculturalism, Diversity & Inclusion

This is a live in position that will report to the Director of Residence Life. The position will include night and weekend hours equating to approximately 20 hours/week. This position will be responsible for planning and implementing multicultural, inclusion, and social justice programs, inclusive of heritage and awareness programs. This position will collaborate with the other residence life graduate assistants to bring specific diversity, inclusion, and awareness programming into the residence halls. This position will collaborate with various campus organizations to enhance multicultural and inclusion programming across campus. This position will also form and advise a Multicultural and Inclusion Board to help to help with the implementation of programs and bring a student voice to decisions relating to diversity and inclusion on campus. In addition, this position will assist with the resident assistant selection process from recruitment to selection and training. This position will also be responsible for supervising resident assistant staff in 1-2 buildings and will rotate on call weekends and with other live on staff.
