VCSU Wins ADDY Awards
Valley City State University received numerous accolades at the 46th Annual Fargo-Moorhead ADDY Awards held Friday, February 28, 2003.

Students Give VCSU an A+ Grade
We got a fantastic holiday present from our students last week in the form of results from a survey they completed last fall. The study showed that students at Valley City State University want the same things from their university as students at other four-year colleges. The difference is that at VCSU they are more likely to get what they want.

Innovative Teachers Grant Awarded to VCSU
Valley City State University announces a new initiative to advance technology skills in prospective and practicing K-12 teachers. With support of an Innovative Teachers Program grant from Microsoft Corporation and the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), Valley City State University's Division of Education, Psychology and Technology now will be able to strengthen their collaboration with area schools to improve learning through effective use of technology in the classroom.

Pole Vault Pit Fundraiser Supper
The Eagles Club in Valley City will be hosting a Barbecue and Beans supper to help raise money for a new pole vault pit to be shared by the VCHS and VCSU.

Enrollment Up at VCSU
Enrollment is up three percent at Valley City State University, compared to spring semester 2002. Headcount this year is 983, compared to 951 in 2002. Full-time enrollment is up four percent, with part-time enrollment remaining about the same as last year.

VCSU Receives Sun Academic Equipment Grant
VCSU is the recipient of an "Academic Equipment Grant" from Sun Microsystems worth $153,510. The grant will help VCSU create an advanced network services environment where students, faculty and staff will have one-stop web access to data, information, and applications. Users will have access to the network services they need anytime, anywhere, on any web enabled device.

Highest Employee Satisfaction - And Aiming Higher
Faculty and staff rated Valley City State University on eight key quality dimensions last fall, and they rated the university higher than the national average for four-year institutions on all eight, and higher than the NDUS average for four-year institutions on all except for one tie score.

GEM Car to be raffled off by VCSU Booster Board
This street legal gear/turf vehicle travels up to 30 mph and is equipped with lights, seat belts, windshield wipers and horn. Valued at $7,600, the vehicle is customized with the Viking logo.

Dr. Chaffee to Receive GNDA Award
Dr. Ellen Chaffee has just been informed that on October 27 the Greater North Dakota Association will be presenting her with their Educator Award for 2002. She was nominated by Larry Spears, director of the North Dakota Consensus Council.

VCSU Only North Dakota University on US News Top List
Valley City State University has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the Best Comprehensive Colleges in the Midwest for the sixth year in a row.

VCSU Teacher Preparation Program Receives ISTE Award
On May 10 Valley City State University received notice that the VCSU Teacher Preparation Program had received the Distinguished Achievement Award from the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). ISTE is a leading organization in the use of technology in education.

Case Study - Higher Education: Valley City State Uni
In 1995, VCSU's leaders decided they wanted to increase the level of technology their students had access to. According to Joe Tykwinski, VCSU's chief information officer, through a technology planning process involving students, faculty, administration, and community members, the university discovered that both students and faculty wanted easier access to computing facilities.

VCSU Music Group Arrives in Oaxaca
Members of the VCSU Choir arrived in Oaxaca Monday, March 7 for nearly two weeks of touring and performing.

Distance Learning / Teaching from Mexico
Experimenting with the technology, Professor Kay Kringlie is in Oaxaca, Mexico for a few weeks, but continuing her classes via Blackboard. The specific purpose of the trip is to shoot video that shows life in Oaxaca, edit it and upload it into the Blackboard so her students have a “virtual visit” to the home of VCSU’s sister university, the Universidad Regional del Sureste.

Sister University Agreement Signed between VSCU and URSE
Leaders from universities in the United States, Mexico, and Canada met in Valley City, North Dakota on September 28, 2001. Fiesta Mexicana 2001, which ran from September 27-29 in the City Auditorium, brought together university officials from all over North America. Dr. Ellen-Earle Chaffee, President of Valley City State University and Mayville State University hosted Dr. Alfredo Jiménez, President of the University of the South East Region (URSE) in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Laptop U Feature Story on VCSU in ComputerWorld
The January 1, 2001 issue of ComputerWorld, the most widely circulated national magazine for information technology in business, contained a two-page feature spread on VCSU's notebook initiative. The emphasis was on how strategic inclusion of IT throughout the university has transformed all of its processes and relationships.

US News Chooses VCSU
For the fourth year in a row, U.S. News & World Report has ranked Valley City State University as one of the top three public comprehensive colleges in the Midwest. This once again reinforces the fact that our faculty and staff are providing a quality experience for students that is second to few in the Midwest.

VCSU Awarded by Computerworld - Top 100 Premier IT Leade
IDG's Computerworld, the newspaper for IT leaders, today released its annual list of the Premier 100 IT Leaders, recognizing IT and business executives who redefine their work environment, business strategy and culture through innovative use of information technology. The winners will be honored at the Premier 100 IT Leaders Conference.
