We got a fantastic holiday present from our students last week in the form of results from a survey they completed last fall. The study showed that students at Valley City State University want the same things from their university as students at other four-year colleges. The difference is that at VCSU they are more likely to get what they want.

Valley City State University announces a new initiative to advance technology skills in prospective and practicing K-12 teachers. With support of an Innovative Teachers Program grant from Microsoft Corporation and the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), Valley City State University's Division of Education, Psychology and Technology now will be able to strengthen their collaboration with area schools to improve learning through effective use of technology in the classroom.

Enrollment is up three percent at Valley City State University, compared to spring semester 2002. Headcount this year is 983, compared to 951 in 2002. Full-time enrollment is up four percent, with part-time enrollment remaining about the same as last year.
VCSU Receives Sun Academic Equipment Grant

VCSU is the recipient of an "Academic Equipment Grant" from Sun Microsystems worth $153,510. The grant will help VCSU create an advanced network services environment where students, faculty and staff will have one-stop web access to data, information, and applications. Users will have access to the network services they need anytime, anywhere, on any web enabled device.

Experimenting with the technology, Professor Kay Kringlie is in Oaxaca, Mexico for a few weeks, but continuing her classes via Blackboard. The specific purpose of the trip is to shoot video that shows life in Oaxaca, edit it and upload it into the Blackboard so her students have a “virtual visit” to the home of VCSU’s sister university, the Universidad Regional del Sureste.

Leaders from universities in the United States, Mexico, and Canada met in Valley City, North Dakota on September 28, 2001. Fiesta Mexicana 2001, which ran from September 27-29 in the City Auditorium, brought together university officials from all over North America. Dr. Ellen-Earle Chaffee, President of Valley City State University and Mayville State University hosted Dr. Alfredo Jiménez, President of the University of the South East Region (URSE) in Oaxaca, Mexico.
