Faculty and staff contribution rate increases to 96 percent
After a challenge by President Steve Shirley, the participation rate for faculty and staff giving to the VCSU Foundation increased from 63 percent in 2011-12 to 96 percent in 2012-13, the highest giving rate on record. The increase netted an immediate gain of $8,000 in scholarship contributions plus pledges that will sustain an increase in contributions for coming years.
Eight to be honored by VCSU Alumni Association
The VCSU Alumni Association will recognize eight alumni at the Alumni Honors Breakfast, which will be held at the VCSU Student Center on Saturday, September 29 at 9:00 am. The Honors breakfast provides the VCSU Alumni Association with an opportunity to present fellow alumni with the Certificate of Merit and Alumni Service awards.
VCSU announces 2012 Viking Hall of Fame Inductees
VCSU is pleased to announce the individuals and teams that will be inducted into the Viking Hall of Fame at the Hall of Fame banquet being held Friday, September 28, 2012 at the Student Center Cafeteria.

VCSU releases final Fall 2012 enrollment figures
VCSU today released final enrollment figures for the Fall 2012 semester showing total headcount of 1,362 students. This fall's enrollment, the third-largest in VCSU's 120+ year history, represents a 1.6% decrease from the all-time high headcount from Fall 2011.
USNews: VCSU #1 Public Regional College in Midwest 2nd year
For the second year in a row, Valley City State University earned the #1 spot among the Top Public Regional Colleges in the Midwest in the 2013 edition of America's Best Colleges by U.S. News Media Group. This marks the 15th year in a row that VCSU has been recognized by U.S.News.
Ribbon cutting marks grand opening of VCSU Cafeteria
Representatives of Sodexo, Inc. and VCSU held a ribbon cutting ceremony today to celebrate the grand opening of the cafeteria at the VCSU Student Center. The event marks the completion of a $425,000 renovation and expansion in the level of service provided by Sodexo as part of the renewal of its contract with VCSU to provide food services at the facility.
NYC Kammermusiker to perform at VCSU
On September 5, Valley City will host the New York Kammermusiker, as they return for a sixth tour of North Dakota. The New York Kammermusiker is a unique chamber ensemble that travels the world presenting a wide range of double-reed music.
VCSU's presence felt at NDCTE Conference
VCSU was highly visible at the 42nd annual Professional Development Conference of North Dakota Career and Technical Education. The Northern Information Technology Consortium, of which VCSU is a member, received the Director's Award of Excellence, and alum Megan (Nodland) Wald '07 was named NDACTE New Educator of the Year.
VCSU's Online M.Ed. ranked a top "Best Buy"
VCSU's online Master of Education has been ranked a top "Best Buy" by GetEducated.com. This recognition comes after GetEducated.com conducted an independent review of 367 online education masters offered by 129 regionally accredited universities and found that VCSU's programs offer high quality online degrees for educators and teachers at a cost that ranks well below the national average.
IMLS grant funds scholarships for M.Ed. library students
VCSU has been awarded a three year, $290,014 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program. The grant will fund scholarships for students enrolled in VCSU's online Master of Education program with the Library and Information Technologies (LIT) concentration and for in-service librarians attending IMLS sponsored summer institutes.
Shelly Ellig Field wins Community Enhancement Award
At the Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce annual banquet, Valley City State University was presented with a Community Enhancement Award to recognize the installation of artificial turf on its football field. Larry Robinson, Executive Director of Advancement for VCSU, accepted the award.
Viking Athletics 'Bleed Cardinal' blood drive a huge success
Viking Athletics held their "Bleed Cardinal" blood drive on Tuesday, May 1 in the VCSU Student Center. The drive was very successful with over 70 people attempting to donate blood. A total of 72 units of blood were donated by 59 volunteers, 28 of which were donating for for the first time.
Vikings participate in Earth Week by cleaning up City Park
Earth Week at Valley City State was a great success this year and Viking student-athletes enjoyed participating as a group in the clean-up at City Park. Over 50 student-athletes from the volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, softball and football teams worked together to help put the park and tennis courts shape for the summer.
EPSCoR selects two VCSU students for GSRA Awards
Two students from Valley City State University (VCSU), Christine Gilbertson, from Valley City, and Jessica Halvorson, from Milnor, have been selected to receive Graduate Student Research Assistantship (GSRA) awards through the North Dakota Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (ND EPSCoR) program.
Student Senate names van Gijssel "Teacher of the Year"
The VCSU Student Senate presented Associate Professor Hilde van Gijssel with the "Teacher of the Year" award on Wednesday, April 25. The award is given annually to a professor who shows dedication to the students of VCSU through innovative teaching methods and continued professional development both inside and outside of the classroom.
Ken Astrup to deliver Keynote address at 120th Commencement
Ken Astrup '73, the General Manager of the Dakota Plains Cooperative in Valley City, will deliver the keynote address at Valley City State University's 120th Commencement exercises, scheduled for 10:00 am Saturday, May 12, 2012 in W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse on the VCSU campus.
New major in Business Process Integration Management at VCSU
Valley City State University plans to offer a new major in Business Process Integration Management (BPIM) beginning Fall semester, 2012.
Articulation helps DCB grads earn CIS bachelor's from VCSU
Valley City State University and Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) recently completed an articulation agreement that allows students who have completed an Associate in Applied Science degree in Information Technology from DCB to earn a Bachelor's degree with a major in Computer Information Systems (CIS) from VCSU.
