VCSU Faculty Teaching in China

VCSU Faculty Teaching in China
For the second summer, Valley City State University faculty are teaching at Zhejiang Economic and Trade Polytechnic in Hangzhou, China. This year the three faculty are Dr. Shou Ching Chao (assistant professor of communication Arts), Dr. Beth Klingenstein (associate professor of music), and Mr. Tony Dutton (instructor in social science).

Following is a update on their experience –

July 5, 2011: We are doing well here in Hangzhou. Classes started three days ago and we are well in the swing of teaching. In fact, we haven't gotten out much to see the sights because we have been busy on campus. Still, we managed to celebrate the fourth of July with dinner in a nearby restaurant. The fourth person in the photo is Linnea Barton from the University of Minnesota Crookston.

Message from Retiring Faculty - Professor Dave Melgaard
As I prepare to complete my last official duties at VCSU on July, I want to express Beve's and my gratitude for the opportunity to be a part of the VCSU family for 33 plus years, full-time and part-time. As we attended the Employee Retirement/Recognition Dinner this past May and I was presented with a beautiful picture of the VCSU footbridge, it was hard to choke back the emotions as my past VCSU work years sped through my mind. Thank you very much for the picture. Of course, the footbridge picture holds a great deal of symbolism for me being a member of the History Bridge Tour Committee.

I had been on an emotional roller coaster since August, 2010 anticipating retirement. The evening of the Recognition Dinner, retirement became a closer reality to our next step in life. As you know, I will still remain "very connected" to VCSU. Beve and I also plan to spend quality time with our grandkids as we enjoy our retirement.

Thanks again for the Retirement/Recognition Dinner - it was a pleasure to be a retirement honoree at the same time as Coleen Clancy and Diane Hill.
