Hagen presents at ATMI pre-conference workshop

Hagen presents at ATMI pre-conference workshop
Valley City State University Professor Dr. Sara Hagen was an invited speaker for the pre-conference workshop of the Association for Technology in Music Instruction (ATMI)/College Music Society (CMS): Teaching Music with Distance Learning Resources.

Hagen's topic was "Creating a Successful Undergraduate Online Music Degree" in which she shared the story of VCSU's Department of Music from laptop implementation to present day. This unusual story of our journey was enthusiastically received by an audience of about 60 at the conference held at the University of San Diego on November 14. Other presenters discussed current trends in online delivery systems including updated audio and video codecs and software/hardware components. Assessment in online teaching and learning was also discussed.

Hagen serves on the New and Emerging Technologies Committee for the CMS under the chairmanship of Dr. David B. Williams, President of CMS. The group met with the administration and other technology committees for an evening dinner meeting to discuss future needs and resources available to CMS.

Hagen was invited to serve as an editor for the College Music Symposium, a publication of the society, that was printed from 1961-2010 when it became an online publication containing scholarly articles, reviews of musical events, discussions of curricular trends, and historical perspectives. Past volumes are available through JSTOR.
