Vikings to Host Winter Baseball Clinic
The Valley City State University baseball team is hosting a winter clinic Friday and Saturday, Dec. 27-28, to benefit youth players in every aspect of the game.
The clinic is held in two sessions each day. Day one covers defensive skills and baserunning while day two offers hitting instruction and pitching. The morning session is 9 a.m. to noon for ages 13 and under.

The cost is $70 for both days or $40 for one day.
On day one participants will learn drills for year-round practice, proper fielding, throwing and baserunning techniques and an introduction to strength and conditioning programs.
Day two offers hitting and pitching instruction. Material covered includes hitting drills for year-round practice, instruction of proper hitting and pitching mechanics.
Participants will need a glove and hat and must wear tennis or gym shoes. Catchers must provide their own equipment.
The school will be led by Viking Coach Casey Olney.
Under Olney, 20 Vikings have earned all-conference recognition and seven have been named NAIA Scholar Athletes. With Olney at VCSU the Vikings have set single season team records for stolen bases, hits and doubles, and individual single season records for hits and RBI's.
Olney, 37, is a native of Flaxton, ND. He attended Cibola H.S. in Yuma, AZ, and graduated from Central College (IA) with a BA in business education. He finished his post-secondary education with a 4.0 GPA while earning a master's degree in Sports Pedagogy from NDSU in 2009.

Winter hitting school offered The school will be conducted in Graichen Gym January 12, 20, 26, February 2, 9, and17. Sessions for players age 7-12 will be held from 3:30-4:30 p.m. with player's age 13-18 participating from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The hitting school will feature both individual and group hitting instruction and individual video swing analysis, along with instruction on bunting, count hitting, plate discipline, strike zone knowledge, hitting drills and preparation tips.
Cost is $50 for all sessions or $10 per session. Participants also receive discounted rates for the VCSU Baseball Holiday Clinic Dec. 27-28.
