Five Valley City State baseball players have been voted to the North Star Athletic Association Preseason All-Conference Team.
The 16-person preseason team, voted on by the conference coaches, was announced Friday night. The Vikings put five individuals on the team, including two pitchers and three position players.
Sophomore Thomas Houdek, from Grafton, N.D., was named to the team as a third baseman. Houdek hit .333 in eight games this fall and batted .320 as a freshman.
Senior Dan Buehner, a catcher from Blaine, Minn. was also voted preseason all conference. He missed most of this fall with injuries, but as a junior Buehner batted .300 and drove in 18 runs.
Sophomore Brady Anderson from Jamestown, N.D., was named preseason all conference as a utility player. Anderson will play numerous positions in the field and pitch this year. He batted .301 as a freshman and led the team with five home runs.
The Vikings also had two starting pitchers named to the preseason team: Bryce Venaas and Carlos Rosales.
Venaas, a senior from Fargo, N.D., posted a 3-3 record last season and a 3.17 ERA. He pitched 48.1 innings and stuck out 51 batters. In four appearances this fall, Venaas was 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA.
Rosales, a junior from La Puente, Calif., transferred to VCSU after the 2013 season. In three appearances this fall, Rosales was 2-0 with a 2.77 ERA. He pitched 13 innings and struck out 14 batters.
Valley City State enters the spring portion of its schedule with a 4-4 record. The Vikings will open spring play March 8-9 with four games at Midland University, Neb.
