The Valley City State basketball teams suffered a sweep Wednesday night at rival University of Jamestown.
The Viking women held an early 10-point lead but the No. 3-ranked Jimmies rallied for a 108-72 victory. In the nightcap, Jamestown led the entire way en route to an 89-50 win.
Women: Jamestown 108, VCSU 72
The Vikings led 22-12 and 30-22 in the first half before Jamestown rallied for a 44-36 halftime lead. The Jimmies, ranked No. 3 in the nation, pulled away in the second half.
Brittany Lehner led Valley City with 22 points and eight rebounds, continuing her stellar play this season against the Jimmies. In two games against Jamestown, Lehner is averaging 25.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
Sierra Even also reached double figures with 12 points Wednesday night. Ashlie Lee added 10 points off the bench for the Vikings (12-11, 2-5 NSAA).
In the end, VCSU just couldn't keep up with the blistering shooting of Jamestown, which shot 57 percent from the field and 10-for-18 on 3's.
Hannah Steele led Jamestown (24-2, 6-1 NSAA) with 27 points and 14 assists.
Men: Jamestown 89, VCSU 50
Valley City State shot just 29 percent Wednesday night as the Viking men suffered their third conference loss.
Jamestown improved to 7-0 in conference play and clinched the regular season North Star Athletic Association championship.
Paxton Lloyd and Aaron Duske both scored nine points in the loss for VCSU and Jeremy Ware added eight points off the bench.
Four different Jimmies reached double figures, led by 19 from Mark Hoge.
Both the Viking men and women will try to rebound with wins Saturday when they host Presentation College in the regular season finale. Game times are at 4 and 6 p.m. at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse. VCSU seniors Brittany Lehner and Aaron Duske will be honored as part of senior night festivities.
