Baseball: Anderson earns 2nd straight POW honor

Brady Anderson of Valley City State (N.D.) and Scott Petry of Mayville State (N.D.) were selected to the third edition of the North Star Athletic Association Baseball weekly honors, announced Monday. Anderson was chosen as Player of the Week for his second straight week, while Petry was picked as Pitcher of the Week.
North Star Athletic Association Baseball Player-of-the-Week
Brady Anderson – Valley City State (N.D.) – 5'10" – Sophomore – Utility – Jamestown, N.D. – Anderson produced an impressive .593 batting average and 1.148 slugging percentage as Valley City State posted a 3-3 record for the week. He hit for the cycle in 23-8 victory at Dickinson State (N.D.) where he recorded a 2-run home run, an RBI triple and a 3-run double. He produced a total of eight RBIs in the game. Anderson had recorded at least three hits in four games last week.
For the week, Anderson was 16-for-27 at the plate, scored 11 runs and recorded 16 RBIs. He had four doubles, a triple and smashed three home runs. Anderson upped his season batting average to .467. He is slugging .761 and has driven in 31 runs in 23 games.
North Star Athletic Association Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week
Scott Petry – Mayville State (N.D.) – 6'0" – Senior – Pitcher – Moorhead, Minn. – Petry picked up a pair of victories in two pitching appearances for Mayville State last week. He pitched two innings in relief to earn the victory over NCAA Division II University of Mary. He gave up two runs (one unearned) on three hits. Petry added another victory as he tossed a 3-0 complete game victory versus Dakota State (S.D.) in North Star Athletic Association conference game. He allowed six hits and recorded four strikeouts in the game. For the week, Petry worked for nine innings, recorded an earned run average of 1.00, struck out five batters and allowed two runs (one unearned) on nine hits.

The North Star Athletic Association/Frontier Baseball conference season officially began last weekend.
Jamestown (N.D.), Mayville State (N.D.) and Valley City State (N.D.) each began their NSAA/Frontier games with a 3-1 record. Dakota State (S.D.), Dickinson State (N.D.) and Presentation (S.D.) each recorded a 1-3 NSAA/Frontier conference record.
The Jimmies split the first NSAA conference doubleheader versus the Saints in Redfield, S.D. on March 29. UJ won the first game by the score of 12-0, but PC earned their first-ever North Star conference victory with a 1-0 11-inning thriller in the second game of the doubleheader.
Jamestown swept both games over Presentation on March 30. UJ won the first game 9-4 and rallied back for an 8-7 victory in the second game. UJ is 16-5 overall record, while Presentation is 5-25 overall record.
Dakota State won the first-ever NSAA conference game over Mayville State on March 29. The Trojans came-from-behind after trailing 4-0 and earned a 5-4 victory over the Comets. MSU won the second game of the doubleheader by the score of 12-0.
Mayville State swept Dakota State on March 30 by the scores of 4-1 and 3-0. The Comets are 21-8 overall record, while Dakota State is 9-16 overall record.
Valley City State dropped the first game of the NSAA/Frontier conference four-game series at Dickinson State (N.D.) on March 29. The Blue Hawks earned a 6-4 victory, but the Vikings won the second game of the doubleheader 23-8.
VCSU earned a doubleheader sweep over DiSU on March 30. The Vikings recorded scores of 9-1 and 5-0 to improve their overall record to 12-19. Dickinson State fell to 5-23.
