VCSU 12, Presentation 8 - Box Score
The Valley City State softball team completed a series sweep of Presentation College with two more wins on Sunday.
The Vikings ended game one after five innings, 14-4, and then slugged out a 12-8 victory in game two. In the four-game sweep of Presentation, the Vikings racked up 48 runs and 62 hits while batting at a .440 team average. The Vikings hit seven home runs and 12 doubles in the four games.
Up next: Valley City State's home games on Monday against Great Falls have been canceled due to weather. The Vikings are scheduled to play at Jamestown on Wednesday for a pair of conference games, but those games are tentative with an unfavorable weather forecast for Wednesday.
VCSU 14, Presentation 4
Six different Vikings had at least two hits as VCSU ended game one Sunday in just five innings. Valley City opened with three runs in the first inning, then put together an eight-run rally in the third for an 11-4 lead. VCSU posted three more runs in the fifth to end the game early by run rule.
Brittany Lehner hit her third home run of the series and drove in two runs. Shayna Taffinder went 3-for-4 with two runs, and Katarina Boychuk had two hits and three RBIs. Mackenzie Hamre and Cejay Hilhorst each had two hits, an RBI and scored two runs. Savannah McMillin went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.
Starting pitcher Ashley Metcalf went the distance for the win, scattering nine hits and allowing four runs while striking out five.
VCSU 12, Presentation 8
Mackenzie Hamre hit her first home run of the season in game two, helping the Viking offense to another big game in a 12-8 win.
VCSU pounded out 18 hits in the victory. The 18 hits came from seven different Vikings, all of whom had at least two hits. Savannah McMillin led the way with a 4-for-5 day at the plate. She also scored three runs and drove in one. Cejah Hilhorst and Olivia Damge both had big games, tallying three hits and three RBIs each.
Hamre, Boychuk, Lehner and Katie Cameron all had two hits, and Hamre and Cameron each drove in two runs. VCSU led 4-0 after two innings, and then broke the game open with five runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth.
Ashley Metcalf started the game for Valley City, working 3 1/3 innings and allowing two hits and two runs. Samantha Nalley worked 3 2/3 innings in relief for the win, allowing eight hits and six runs.
