The Valley City State University Concert Choir will begin a 10-day tour of Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic on Thursday, May 22.

The choir will visit renowned music and cultural sites, including Neuschwanstein Castle, Mozart’s birthplace in Salzburg, Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna and historic Prague.

The 26-voice choir will perform five concerts on tour: at the Reutte Music School on May 24, at St. Michael’s Cathedral in Salzburg May 25, at Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna on May 27, at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna on May 28 and at St. Nicholas Church in Prague May 30.

Valley City State University’s Concert Choir is directed by Christopher Redfearn, assistant professor and chair of the VCSU music department. Redfearn holds a Doctor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado, a Master of Music degree from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Music degree from Brigham Young University.

Redfearn also conducts the University Singers and teaches choral conducting, vocal methods and applied voice at VCSU. He previously taught high school vocal music for seven years in Idaho and Michigan.
