Tisa Mason named VCSU president

At its meeting on the Valley City State University campus Thursday, Oct. 30, the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education (SBHE) appointed Tisa Mason, Ed.D., as the next president of VCSU. 

Mason will come to Valley City from Hays, Kan., where she currently serves as vice president for student affairs at Fort Hays State University. She previously served as dean of student life at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater in Whitewater, Wis., and as executive director of the Sigma Kappa Sorority and Foundation in Indianapolis, Ind.

She holds a Doctor of Education degree in higher education from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va.; a Master of Science in Education from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Ill., and a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology/anthropology from Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky.

Mason succeeds Steven Shirley in the VCSU presidency; Shirley became president of Minot State University in July 2014. Margaret Dahlberg, VCSU vice president for academic affairs, has been serving as interim president since Shirley’s departure. 

Mason will begin her work at VCSU no later than Dec. 31, 2014, according to the SBHE appointment.
