VCSU saw there sixteen game home winning streak come to an end Saturday afternoon at the hands of Dickinson State, as the Bluehawks upset the NAIA’s tenth ranked team 23-14.

Nick Walker led DSU with 119 yards rushing and 2 td’s to go along with 82 yards and 1 td through the air and Jeremy Fagerland kicked a 50 yard field goal with 8:44 to go in the game to give the Bluehawks a 17-14 lead. VCSU Jimmy Newton scored the apparent go ahead touchdown with less than two minutes to play only to have the score nullified by holding.

The play of the game however came with one minute to go as VCSU lined up for a 27 yard field goal in to the wind. The Vikings opted for a fake and the win, but DSU sniffed it out and stopped the Viking drive.

Walker secured the victory two plays later as he scampered for a 79 yard touchdown on an option play. Newton led VCSU with 134 yards rushing and 2 td’s on 34 carries. Viking wide receiver Steve Battle caught five passes for 82 yards and became VCSU’s all time leader in career receptions with 162.

With the win Dickinson and Valley City are tied at 4-1 in the conference and 5-1 overall.
