For the second straight day the Vikings would lose a thriller in the last inning and get beat by a nationally ranked team.
In the first game of the day Iowa Wesleyan proved to be a 9-7 victor off of Vikings hurler Karalea Morris. The Vikings could not match the clutch hitting of Iowa Wesleyan as they scored two runs in each the fifth and sixth innings to take a three run lead. The Vikings scored one in the top half of the seventh but could get no closer.
Morris was hit for six earned runs, struck out six and walked four. Offensively, freshman Jessica McDougall had another solid game going two for three at the plate. Jenni Crom, Alana Purvis, Charla Bick, Jackie O’ Neill and Molly Schultz all collected a hit a piece as well.
Number seven nationally ranked Columbia College put on a short game clinic, playing small ball and stealing six bases versus the Vikings en route to a 9-0 victory in the final game of the William Woods Tournament.
Alana Purvis was given the loss and gave up six earned runs in six innings of work. Katie Cavallaro and McDougall finished with a solid tournament each collecting two hits. Jackie O’Neill and Jenni Crom each collected singles for the Vikings.
