The Valley City State Women’s Softball team was swept by the number two ranked team in the conference, Dickinson State on Wednesday when they faced each other in Bismarck, ND. Game 1 between the Vikings and the Blue Hawks was a pitchers duel, with Dickinson State’s pitcher Erin Brinkman having a big game as she pitched a no hitter.

Valley City’s Karalea Morris also had a decent game for the Vikings, giving the Blue Hawks only one hard hit ball off of her. The Vikings ended up losing the first game by a final score of 2-0.

In the second game against the Blue Hawks things didn’t seem to get much better for the Vikings. Viking’s pitcher Alana Purvis was on the mound up against the Blue Hawk’s pitcher Erin Brinkman. It was a 2-1 game going into the bottom of the 4th inning before VCSU had 6 errors in the inning to allow DSU to blow the game open. The only run of the game for the Vikings came from Ruby Garza, who was knocked in by Alisha Sackman. The Vikings lost the second game by a final score of 10-1.

ìOverall I thought for playing the number one and two teams in the DAC-10 we faired pretty well. I think we believe we can play with the top of our conference and we should be able to build on that,î stated coach Slyter.

The Vikings now have an overall record of 6-11, 1-3 in conference play and are set to take on Presentation College on Thursday, March 30 in their home opener.
