Five Vikings Receive NAIA National Honors

Fourteen Dakota Athletic Conference football players were named to the NAIA All America teams and an additional eighteen players were awarded NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors.

Honorable Mention selections from Valley City State include center Travis Lester of Milbank, SD and defensive end Joe Maresh of Glencoe, MN.

To be honored as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete, a player must be a junior or above in academic standing and must maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.50 or above on a 4.0 scale.

The NAIA Scholar-Athlete honorees from Valley City State are Jeremy Payne from Bertha, MN, Eric Spooner from Tappen, ND and Michael Wagner from Beulah, ND.

The Valley City State University football team won its 25th conference title with a 6-1 conference record and a 7-3 overall record. The Vikings finished the year ranked 22nd in the NAIA national poll while just missing out on the national playoffs by losing a very hard fought game against the 10th ranked team in the nation Azusa Pacific by a score of 34-31.
