MAYVILLE, ND - Mayville State University overcame a sluggish start with a jolt from the bench and rolled to a comfortable 90-76 home win over Valley City State in men’s basketball Thursday night in the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.
VCSU started the game with a 6-0 run for what was the Vikings’ largest lead of the game, Matt Stenehjem gave came off the bench for two slams and a steal that led to another basket and forge an 11-all tie. Then it was Gilby Sanchez’s turn. In a rare reserve performance for Sanchez, he came out and scored 13 points in the first half as the Comets built a 16-point lead, including a three at the half-time buzzer. Justin Curry led VCSU with 23 points. Brandon Bata scored 20 as he hit 7-of-8 shots from the field and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
