Valley City, ND - Valley City State scored seven runs in the first inning and Jason Beilke scattered 10 hits over nine innings as the Vikings defeated Dakota State University 10-3 in the first game of DAC Conference action for both teams.

Dakota State took the nightcap 1-0 as Josh Tomlin outdueled VCSU's Marc Wilson.
Tomlin surrendered four hits and was the beneficiary of two game saving plays by DSU's shortstop Greg Biagi.

Wilson struck out eight and allowed just three hits and two walks. Both walks proved costly as they led to DSU's lone run in the sixth inning. Wilson extracted himself from a bases loaded and no out situation by giving up just one run.

VCSU jumped out early on starter Dustin Ottens in game one scoring seven runs on four hits with the big blow coming on a triple by Tony Forster.

Reid Arnold had three hits including a home run and a double to pace the Vikings. Dustin Grabowska added a hit and two rbi.

Beilke struck out five and walked one in going the distance.

VCSU (9-3, 1-1) hosts the #7 NAIA ranked Trojans (23-3, 1-1) again Monday at The Charlie at 1:00.
