DICKINSON, ND - Valley City State found out why Dickinson State lost only one game in the DAC regular season as the Blue Hawks swept a four game series in Dickinson.
Dickinson capitalized on 18 walks, six hit batsmen and five VCSU errors on day one to beat the Vikings 10-1 and 10-3. VCSU was led by Calhoun, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI in game one
The second contest was similar to the first as DSU scored runs in groups throughout the game.
The Blue Hawks got on the board with a run in the second, and then scored two in the third, four in the fourth and three in the sixth inning.
VCSU got two runs in the sixth and another one in the seventh, but couldn't overcome a rough outing by starter Wylie Wisnewski, who gave up seven runs on seven hits.
VCSU's Cory Arnason was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. The Vikings outhit the Hawks on the day but made too many miscues to stay in either game.
The Vikings played much better on day two as Marc Wilson threw nine innings of shutout baseball but saw his teammates fail to get any timely hits as the Blue Hawks pushed across the winning run in the eleventh inning.
Jason Beilke gave the Vikings another strong outing in game two but saw a similar fate as Wilson as the Vikings dropped their eighth DAC game in a row to end the regular season.
