The Valley City State Baseball was swept by Viterbo University on Monday in Brownsville, Texas dropping the first game 10-5 and the second game 12-2.
In Game 1 starting pitcher Mike Fox did not give up a hit in his 4+ innings of work and left the game in the fifth with a lead but Fox struggled with his command and was pulled due to a high pitch count. The V-Hawks scored 4 runs in the fifth to make the score 5-4 taking the lead for good, and they added four more in the sixth to claim the victory. Offensively the Vikings were led by Chris Olson who was 2-3 with a Homerun, Jeremy Wiebe who had two singles and a RBI, and Matt Huonder who was 1-3 with a Homerun and a 2 RBI.
More walks and lack of run support hurt the Vikings in the second game as the Vikings fell to the V-Hawks in 6 innings by a score of 12-2. Starter Cory Arnason went 4 innings allowing 7 runs on 5 hits with 2 strikeouts. Offensively Tony Forster, Tanner Bombenger, and Matt Huonder each had a hit.
The Vikings are 1-3 on the year. They play UT-Brownsville on Wednesday.
