Five Valley City State University football players were named to Don Hansen’s Football Gazette All-American Team.
Steve Battle (Jr., Cocoa, FL)was named to the Football Gazettes All-American first team. Battle led the DAC-10 in scoring while hauling in 51 receptions for 947 yards and 13 touchdowns. Battle was named to the second team last season.
Brent Miller (Sr., Fargo, ND) was named to the Gazette’s second team as a defensive lineman. Miller finished his career as VCSU’s Tackles for Loss lead in a season and career while finishing number two on the all-time quarterback sacks list.
Ben Aarestad (Sr., West Fargo, ND) was named as a third team linebacker. The former Packer graduated as VCSU’s all-time leading tackler in school history.
Quarterback Jeremy Peschel (Sr., Wahpeton, ND) and punter James Thornton (Sr., Valley City, ND) received honorable mention. Peschel leaves VCSU as its all-time leading passer while Thornton set school records for punting average in a career and in a single season.
Peschel also just recently signed a contract with the Baden Bruins of the Austrian International Football League-1st division. The league begins play in February. It is a very good league with very high caliber football that will test Peschel’s skills and will be a great experience for the former Valley City State star.
