The Sioux scored the first run of the contest in the second inning when Anthony Brenner reached base on a fielding error. Brenner scored on Chris Gulvig's double to right-centerfield.
In the third inning, the Sioux would add two more runs on back-to-back base hits and a double by Jabby Bakhit.
Valley City State threatened in the sixth inning when they scored two runs. Valley City State lead off the top of the sixth inning with three straight singles to load the bases. Alex Wheal then grounded into a double-play that scored Jeremy Wiebe from third base. Chris Olson then singled to right-centerfield and scored Tanner Bombenger on the play.
The Vikings managed to load the bases with two outs in the top of the ninth but were unable to push across the tying runs.
VCSU takes the field for conference double headers at Charlie Brown vs. Minot State at 1:00 PM this Saturday and Sunday.
