The Vikings scored on a 22 yard pass play from Jason Beilke to Chauncey Calhoun with no time left in the half to make the score 21-14 in favor of VCSU. With the momentum and the ball to start the second half it looked like VCSU was ready to roll, but Dickinson State outscored VCSU 14-0 in the final 30 minutes and took the game 28-21.

VCSU Opened the scoring with a nine yard pass from Beilke to Dan Hill to take a 7-0 lead and extended the margin to 14-0 on a 44 yard pass play from Beilke to Calhoun. DiSU tied the game in the second quarter on consecutive drives capped with touchdown passes from Brandon Bishop-Parise to Darrin Pauley and Blaine Berg.

The big play in the second half was a 70 yard punt return from Derion Williams for a touchdown. The return broke a 21-21 tie in the fourth quarter. Williams evaded several would be Viking tacklers on the way to the end zone.

The Vikings moved the ball in the second half but could not get the big play or the big stop. VCSU moved the ball into Blue Hawk territory numerous times coming away without points on each occasion. With a strong easterly wind the field goal game was shelved by both teams forcing attempts to convert fourth and long.
