The American Library Association/American Association of School Librarians (ALA/AASL) awarded a Statement of Commendation to Valley City State University for its new Master of Education concentration in Library and Information Technologies.
The application for commendation was submitted May 15, 2008 to ALA/AASL and read: "The new Master of Education program at Valley City State University, designed for teachers at either primary or secondary level, now offers a concentration in Library and Information Technologies. This new program is working toward meeting both the AASL and NCATE School Library Media Specialist Preparation Standards. The program, which currently meets the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction Standards for the preparation of library media specialists, recognizes the importance of the library program as an integral part of the school community and advocates for school libraries which support student learning and achievement."
This award was presented to the Director of VCSU's Allen Memorial Library, Donna James, during the awards banquet at the state association's annual conference, September 25, 2008 in Mandan.
