The last four weeks the Vikings have played well enough to win, but have not been able to avoid the big mistake that costs them the game. The Vikes have battled the top teams in the league and have shown that they are no pushover, unfortunately for VCSU they have been unable to find a way to win. Another loss this week by less than a touchdown to Black Hills State has made VCSU 2-4 and 0-3 in the DAC.
VCSU dug a hole to start the game by allowing a quick scoring drive to open the game, and then on VCSU's first offensive play quarterback Jason Beilke was hit as he attempted to pass the ball and was intercepted. The next play for BHSU was a run to the right side that went for a touchdown. BHSU was up 14-0 before the 10 minute mark in the first quarter and it looked as though the game could be a blowout.
VCSU answered on its next possession with a score on a run from Chauncey Calhoun to make it 14-7. After a BHSU turnover VCSU looked to tie the game and it appeared that they would. A Beilke pass to Garrett Jackson looked like six until Jackson was caught at the one yard line and while reaching for the goal line the ball came out as Jackson hit the ground, the play was ruled a fumble much to the frustration of the VCSU coaching staff. The play would be indicative of the day for VCSU, almost but not quite.
VCSU was led by Beilke through the air as he passed for 374 yards and 4 touchdowns. Chauncey Calhoun caught 8 passes for 107 yards and a touchdown, Dan Hill had 3 receptions for 97 yards, Matt Crane had a 78 yard touchdown reception, Jason Hollett and AJ Pfeifer each had a touchdown reception.
VCSU takes on Dakota State University this Saturday at Lokken Field. Game time is 1:30 PM.
