It had been the passing attack that powered the Viking offense most of the season, today VCSU rushed 35 times for 246 yards and one touchdown. AJ Pfeifer led a balanced running game with 99 yards, Andy Derlilus and Jordan Backstrom chipped in with 70 and 66 respectively. Derilus had the only running touchdown on the day.

Dakota State opened the scoring with a field goal but would not score again until the game was no longer in doubt. VCSU scored 40 unanswered points after the first quarter. Two of the scores came from the familiar combination of Jason Beilke to Chauncey Calhoun. Jordan Fylling and AJ Pfeifer also caught long TD passes from Beilke. The Pfeifer touchdown came by way of some trickery by the Vikings. Calhoun lined up at quarterback, faked a run to the left and pitched the ball back to Beilke who had lined up in the flat as a wide receiver; Beilke then passed the ball to a wide open Pfiefer who was streaking down the right sideline. A well timed block from Dan Hill sprung Pfeifer for the score.

The Viking defense also had an outstanding day forcing two fumbles and recovering both. The defense held Dak State to just 110 Yards rushing and held them scoreless for nearly three full quarters. Michael Webber led the Vikings with 11 tackles, Tommy Butler, Ronald Buck, and Greg Innocent each had a sack in the game.

VCSU will look to even their record next week at Mayville State University. Game time is 1 PM.
