Loretta Welk-Jung a 1964 graduate of Valley City State University was a special guest on campus January 21. Loretta Welk-Jung is the author of the books Crystalene, The Rainbow Snow Girl and Crystalene, The Rainbow Snow Girl Returns. She wrote these books as a legacy to her grandchildren. Heritage, family, and traditions were an intricate part of her life and she wanted to preserve them for future generations. This delightful ensemble brings messages through the colors of the rainbow shawl that encourage the reader and listener to promote peace in their lives.

The Foundation Office hosted Loretta's visit to campus. While on campus, Loretta visited with Amy Anderson's Children's Literature class, read to two of the Community Action Head Start classes, and visited the Valley City Area Teachers Center. During her visit to the Teachers Center, she donated a complete set of her materials including the two Crystalene books, audio CDs for each book, a coloring book, sheet music, a 10-inch plush character, and a teaching ideas project guide.

Loretta is an educator, having taught primary age children for 35 years. Currently, she is serving as a substitute teacher (K-5) in the Jamestown school system and surrounding communities.
