Vikings Destroy Northern State
By Ryan Cunningham NewsDakota.com
Valley City--Too many Viking baseball scores this season have looked like football scores, and against Valley City State's best interests.
So, it is nice to see one work out in the Vikings' favor.
Down 7-1 after four, the Vikings pounded out 27 runs over the final five innings to wreck the Northern State Wolves 28-10 Wednesday in Aberdeen, SD.
Twelve Viking runners scored in the fifth alone, and eight more came across in the seventh. Meanwhile, Viking relievers stemmed the tide of the first three innings, holding the Wolves to just three hits over the final four innings.
Every Viking starting hitter had a multiple-hit day, led by Michael Danielson (Fr., New London, MN, right), who was 4-5 with three runs and two RBI. Colin Waldner (Fr., Altona, MB) finished 4-7 with three runs and seven driven in.
Surprisingly, the Vikings hit just one home run, as Waldner put a 1-0 pitch over the center-field fench in the eight to bring in three. The Vikings hit nine doubles, with Danielson and Waldner each hitting a two-bagger.
The Vikings have now won three straight, and are 7-28 overall. and face Minot State this Saturday in Minot and this Sunday in Valley City for a four-game Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) series.
