Valley City State University reported final Headcount for the 2011 Spring semester of 1,221, an increase of 18% over last year's figure, marking the largest Spring semester enrollment since the University moved to a three semester academic year in the Summer of 1992. This follows VCSU's announcement of the Fall 2010 Headcount increase of 19% to the largest enrollment in 40 years.

Dr. Steve Shirley, president of VCSU, said, "We are very pleased that our enrollment continues to show impressive growth. The increases are substantial at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and our growth this year spans every Division of the University. Some areas have shown particularly impressive growth, for example, the number of majors in fields related to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Education has increased by 48% over last year, and is up by 337% over the last ten years."
