Head Men's Basketball Coach of the Valley City State University Vikings, Jeff Kaminsky, has announced that A.J. McDonald from Shoemaker High School in Killeen, TX has recently signed a Letter of Intent to attend VCSU and join the Viking basketball program beginning with the 2011-12 school year. A.J. has had great success during his career at Shoemaker High School where his senior season he averaged 14.1 points, 5.1 assists, and 2.3 steals per game and shot 80% from the free throw line. He was named 2nd Team All-District and Shoemaker Team Most Valuable Player this past season.
Shoemaker High School Head Coach Marc Minatrea comments, 'We are really happy for A.J. He had four successful years on the court and in the classroom at Shoemaker High School. A.J. improved his basketball game year to year more than any other student-athlete in the five years since I've been at Shoemaker. Aside from his quickness and skills on the court, A.J. has a great work ethic, is very coachable, and is a great teammate. We are very thankful to have had A.J. in our program for four years. He was a great representation of Shoemaker High School, and he will be a great representation of Valley City State University the next four years.'
Kaminsky also comments on McDonald, 'We are excited to have A.J. join our program. He has experienced a high level of success in an extremely competitive area of Texas high school basketball. He is an intelligent and unselfish player. What has been most impressive about watching A.J. play and hearing about how he conducts himself is the approach that he has to the game and the positive impact that he has on others. He has the ability to break down the defense and the quickness to be an outstanding defender in our system. He has the character, work ethic, and ability that make him a welcomed addition to our program.'
