After having to work hard until the final buzzer in the quarter and semi-finals, Valley City State University exploded in the second half of the 2011 Coca Cola Wesmen Classic to cruise to a 90-58 win over Brandon University to earn the championship.

Led by the tournament's Most Valuable Player, Sekani Milligen scored 25 points including 7-11 shooting from the three point line to blow out the Bobcats. Milligen also caromed seven rebounds on the night. In the three game/three day tournament, Milligen averaged 25 points a game.

Aaron Duske, who was chosen to the All Star Team, also had another double digit night, tallying 18 points and AJ McDonald continued his improved play adding 12 to round out the double digit scoring for the Viking men.

The Vikings led a fairly close game at the break 37-26, then shot a blistering 58.8% in the second half to run away with the game and the title.

The victory for the Vikings is only the second title to be won by an American school and the first since 1968, when Bismarck State College won the title.

Now at 13-4 on the season, the Vikings will return to play in the states on January 4, 2012 when they travel to play at the University of Minnesota-Morris. The Vikings will look to extend their seven game win streak against the very team in which they began that streak, when they beat the Cougars 78-54 at home on December 7.
