VCSU Baseball Signs Two Versatile Arms

Coach Casey Olney is pleased to announce that the Viking baseball program has made two quality additions for the 2013 season. Matt Jellum and Jake Lindenfelser have signed letters of intent to play for the Vikings in 2013. Both are primarily pitches but have the potential to be two way contributors.

Matthew Jellum, Marine on Saint Croix MN, Forrest Lake HS.

RHP/INF Jellum hit .353 in his junior year and .360 as a sophomore. He is 14-4 in his past two seasons with seven complete games, three shutouts, and has an ERA of 1.65 over his sophomore and junior seasons. Matt helped lead his Forrest Lake High School team to conference and section championships the past two seasons. 'Matt is a tremendous addition to the Viking baseball program. He brings a quality arm and some versatility to the team. He has played a lot of baseball at a high level in Minnesota and has been a part of successful teams in the past. Matt is very enthusiastic about Valley City and VCSU and I am excited to work with him as a Viking baseball player' Said Coach Olney. Matt plans to major in education while continuing his baseball career at VCSU.

Jake Lindenfelser, Monticello MN, St. Cloud Tech CC.

RHP/OF Lindenfelser hit .309 with seven doubles, a triple and 19 RBI for St. Cloud Tech which finished last year ranked #10 in NJCAA III and were ranked as high as 3rd in 2011. On the mound Jake finished 4-0 with a 3.62 ERA in 27.1 innings. He struck out 23 and limited hitters to a .269 AVG. Jake played for Mark Hollenhorst and Jason Fischer at St. Cloud Tech. This year Jake will be in the starting rotation for the Cyclones and see some time on the outfield as well. 'Jake is a key addition as he brings a strong arm and powerful bat to the program. We see Jake as a starting pitcher for us and as a guy who could help with the bat as well. I am excited to have a young man with his experience coming from a very successful program to VCSU' Said Coach Olney. Jake will major in Fisheries and Wildlife while at VCSU.
