Valley City.Viking men’s basketball coach Adam DeHaan has announced that Brandon Bata of Kensal High School and Steven Trudeau of May-Port CG have signed Letters of Intent at Valley City State University.
Bata, the Region III Most Valuable Graduating Senior, averaged 18.8 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks during his senior season. A two-time Class B All-State selection, Bata was a Mr. Basketball.
VCSU head coach Adam DeHaan is pleased with Bata’s decision stating, "Brandon is a very diverse player. Even at 6-4, he has an uncanny ability to score on the block. Brandon is also comfortable on the perimeter. As he matures into a college player, we think he will be very hard to guard.
The 6-5 Trudeau capped the Patriots’ Class B championship run with the game winning shot versus the Berthold Bombers in the title game. May-Port CG completed the year with a record of 26-2. Trudeau averaged 8.7 points, 4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists
VCSU head coach Adam DeHaan expressed his enthusiasm of signing Trudeau stating, "Steve’s desire to succeed is very high. He also possesses a keen knowledge of the game and an athletic, lanky frame. Steve is a great college prospect with a huge upside.
Valley City State University finished 10-19 a year ago. VCSU is a member of the Dakota Athletic Conference and is an NAIA member institution.
