The Valley City State University Vikings will face the #3 nationally ranked College of the Ozarks (Point Lookout, MO) in the opening round of the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament in Sioux City, IA.
The Vikings and Lady Bobcats will square off on the second day of opening round action on Thursday, March 8 at 1:45 pm.
College of the Ozarks (29-3) won the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC) tournament to earn an automatic bid to Sioux City. The Lady Bobcats are making their 18th National Tournament appearance and have a 26-17 overall record in the tournament.
College of the Ozarks have won their last 20 straight games and earlier in the season collected wins versus former Dakota Athletic Conference opponents Black Hills State and South Dakota Mines. Junior Morgan Smith, ranked number 10 in the nation in scoring, leads the Lady Bobcats in scoring at 19.6 points per game and is the only player to average double figures.
The Vikings (19-14) are making their second straight NAIA National Tournament after appearing for the first time in the program's history last year. Valley City State earned one of two automatic bids in the Association of Independent Institutions Conference Tournament last weekend when they knocked of then #7 ranked and rival Jamestown College 58-50.
Valley City State at one point in the early season sported a 3-7 record before winning eleven of their next twelve games including an eight game win streak to put them back on track for another National Tournament run.
