Viking Football hosts Mayville State University
The Vikings host former DAC rival Mayville State in the home opener this Saturday at 1:00 pm at Shelly Ellig Field. VCSU is now 0-1 after a 49-7 defeat from Morningside College. Mayville State is 1-0 after they opened their season on the road defeating Dakota College 46-6. Valley City won both contests in the 2011 season defeating the Comets 52-20 and 28-14, respectively.

SR QB Tommy Zinke finished 15-32 for 194 yards while JR WR Charles King caught four balls for 91 yards. Defensively, SRs Aaron Freije and Alex Hooey led the Vikings defense with 10 tackles each.

In the Comets first contest they were led by JR Dominique Bradley with 148 yards on 21 carries with 3 touchdowns. SR QB Tanner Carpenter was 7 for 12 passing for 215 yards with 2 touchdowns. JR WR Taylor Kunkel caught 5 balls for 172 yards and added a touchdown. Defensively the Comets were led in tackles by SO LB Jacob Grosz who had 10 and JR LB Justin Popovich who added 8.

The Vikes remain ranked 17th in the NAIA national football poll after the loss to Morningside and after a 9-2 season a year ago.
