VCSU releases final Fall 2012 enrollment figures
Third-largest enrollment in University's history

Valley City State University today released final enrollment figures for the Fall 2012 semester showing total headcount of 1,362 students. This fall's enrollment, the third-largest in VCSU's 120+ year history, represents a 1.6% decrease from the all-time high headcount from Fall 2011.

Dr. Steve Shirley, VCSU president, said, "The all-time record enrollment we experienced last year represented a growth of more than 40% over the previous four years, and this slight decrease leaves our enrollment less than 2% away from record levels. Moreover, we remain focused on offering our students an outstanding academic experience and are gratified by the national recognition we are receiving such as last week's announcement by U.S.News naming VCSU as the #1 public regional college in the Midwest for the second year in a row."

Over the last five years, enrollment at VCSU has grown by 38.7%. This year, the University enrolled 190 new freshmen (the third largest freshmen class in 14 years) and 104 transfer students for a total of 294 new students, 11.8% higher than the previous ten-year average.

This growth has been driven in part by the introduction of programs in high-demand subjects such as Health Science and Fisheries and Wildlife Science. VCSU is continuing to add new programs such as majors in Medical Laboratory Science, Athletic Training, and Business Process Integration Management (BPIM). The University is also upgrading its facilities including a $10.3 million expansion and renovation of the Rhoades Science Center, the recent renovation of residence halls into apartment-style suites, the renovation of its cafeteria, and last year's installation of artificial turf on its football field.

Valley City State University (VCSU) prepares people for life through visionary leadership and exemplary practices in teaching, learning and service. VCSU is nationally acclaimed for attracting and retaining talented individuals who advance quality learning opportunities and economic growth through technology and innovation.
