FB: Vikings Jimmies Preview

The Valley City State Vikings travel to Jamestown College this weekend for a rivalry match-up against the Jamestown College Jimmies. The Vikings are now 2-1 after a 41-31 win over Dakota State last weekend. The Jimmies moved to 1-3 after a 17-14 OT win against the South Dakota Mines. The annual Paint Bucket Trophy game is set for 1pm at Taylor Stadium in Jamestown. The Vikings lead in the overall series record for the Paint Bucket Trophy with 31 wins to Jamestown Colleges 28.

The Vikes remain ranked 20th in the NAIA this week

Vikings rank number 15 in Division I in Total Sacks (9)

Rank number 16 in Pass Efficiency (142.3)

Rank number 16 in Total Defense per Game (283)

Ken Eliacin (SR, TE, Miami, FL) currently ranks number seven in Division I in Receive Yds per Game (105.7) and also number eight in Total Receive Yds (317)

Derek Elliot (JR, RB, Valley City, ND) ranks number nine in Division I in Total Scoring (5 TDs)

Fontayne Fuga (JR, LB, San Diego, CA) currently ranks number eight in Division I in Total Sacks (3)

Aaron Freije (SR, DL, West Fargo, ND) ranks number 11 in Tackles per Game (11.3)

DaSU Leftovers

Tommy Zinke (SR, QB, Rolla, ND) led the way with four touchdowns and 235 yards on 16/31 passing

Ken Eliacin had eight receptions for 159 yards and two touchdowns

Derek Elliot had two receptions for 41 yards and two touchdowns with seven rushes for 47 yards

Aaron Freije led the way defensively with 13 tackles and one sack

Fontayne Fuga added four tackles and two sacks

The Vikes held the Trojans rush attack to just 71 yards on 35 carries

JC Scouting Report

The Jimmies rank number 28 in Division I in Total Pass Offense (665)

Rank number 41 in Total Rushing Offense (510)

In the Jimmies first win of the season they had a season-high 426 yards of offense

Senior running back Lance Johansen had 162 yards rushing on 20 carries

Matt Mithaugen helped out as well carrying the ball 17 times for 86 yards

Paint Bucket Trophy

Student associations from Valley City State University and Jamestown College met in January of 1961 and established the Paint Bucket Series.
The Paint Bucket Trophy, symbolic of the rivalry or past years shall be presented to the team emerging victorious in the annual VCSU versus JC football game. The trophy shall have the year and that school's name engraved on the base and remain in the possession of that school until the following year and game when it, as in years to follow, will again be presented to the school emerging victorious.

Let it therefore be known that on the twenty-eighth day of October in the nineteen hundred and sixty first year of our Lord, that, with the football game between VCSU and JC, the heretofore described Paint Bucket Series shall commence.
