The Viking Harriers travelled to Minneapolis, MN to compete in the 27th annual Roy Griak Invitational cross country meet, hosted by the University of Minnesota at the Les Bolstad Golf course. This meet proved an eye opening experience for the team, as this is one of the largest cross country meets in the nation. This meet has three separate college divisions with over thirty plus schools in each division and four hundred plus runners in each race. VCSU competed in the NCAA Division II /maroon race for both the men and women. The course featured rolling terrain with a number of sharp inclines, which in themselves where not taxing but they did have an accumulated effect in the later stages of the race. The men's distance was 8000m and the women distance was 6000m.
Jose Garcia for the third time this season led the men's squad, finishing 228th with a time of 28:35. Richard Wright followed Garcia in 246th with a time of 28:54.Freshmen Malik Jackson moved up on the team to be the Vikings third man in finishing 287th with a time of 29:36.
Anna Fuka was the top finisher for the Viking women over the 6000m course in finishing 162nd with a time of 25:17. Krista Briss also ran well to finish 266th with a time of 26:32, which is a personal record.
