The Lindenwood – Belleville Lynx were held scoreless for the first time this season, as they fell 27-0 to the Vikings of Valley City State University.
The Lynx (4-5) saw chances throughout the game, but the Vikings (6-3) were relentless as quarterback Tommy Zinke led his team to the victory on the road.
The Vikings got on the board with just under four minutes left in the first quarter, as Zinke connected with Colby Lum on a 54-yard pass followed by the extra point from Thomas Cortez for the 7-0 lead. Another field goal made by Cortez just a minute later would give the Vikings a 10-0 lead heading into the second quarter. In the second quarter of play, Cortez picked up his second field goal on the day to propel VCSU to a 13-0 lead at halftime.
VCSU was on the attack again coming out of the half, as the Vikings found themselves up 20-0 with another touchdown pass from Zinke to Lum and the extra point from Cortez. VCSU scored again three minutes into the fourth quarter for 27-0 lead, which would mark the final score of the game.
Trey Phipps got the start at quarterback, going 10-27 and throwing 117 yards. Kameron Harris led the team in rushing with 59 yards on 21 carries.
The Vikings will be back in action in the regular season finale against Robert Morris this Saturday 1:00 PM at Shelley Ellig field.
