Both teams shot well from the floor in the first half but the Valley City State Viking Men stifled the University of Minnesota Crookston offense in the second half to pull away for a 66-50 victory on Tuesday at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse.
After shooting 47.8% in the first half and trailing by only five at the half, the Golden Eagles shot only 28.6% from the floor including one for seven (14.3%) from the three point line thanks in large part to amped up Viking defensive pressure.
Meanwhile, Gus Kueber had his breakout game in his new Viking uniform, scoring a game high 18 points to lead a balanced Viking offense that put four players in double figures. Kueber's night was highlighted by a four for four performance from beyond the arc and 6 for 9 shooting overall from the field.
Sekani Milligen and Aaron Duske each put 13 on the board while AJ McDonald rounded out the double digit scores with 12 for Valley City State.
The #24 ranked Vikings move their early season record to 2-1. Valley City State returns to action with another home contest on Saturday when they host Viterbo University (WI) at 3:00 PM at the W. E. Osmon Fieldhouse.
