The 24th ranked Valley City State University Vikings used two early second half nine point runs to push themselves out to a lead versus visiting Viterbo University (WI) before holding them off at the end for a 74-61 win to move to 3-1 on the season.
Gus Kueber hit a shot at the buzzer at the end of the first half to put the Vikings up 24-22 at the break. Then the Vikings used a 9-2 run in the first two and a half minutes of the second half to push out to a 33-24 lead before the V-Hawks used a 9-0 run of their own to tie the game once again.
That run was broken up on a break away lay-up by Chris Embden and that spurred 9-0 Vikings run of their own that was capped off by a Patrick Rogers three point make and the Vikings fended off Viterbo from that point on.
Valley City State shot 62.5% in the second half and 14 of 18 from the free throw line to seal their third victory of the season.
Senior Sekani Milligen led the way for VCSU scoring 20 points including 4 of 8 from the three point line. Aaron Duske scored 15 and Gus Kueber tacked on 13 points to round out the double digit scorers for the Vikings.
Valley City State will have a week off before hosting former DAC, now Frontier Conference member Dickinson State University on Saturday, November 17. Game time is set to tip off at 4:00 PM.
