The Valley City State University Men's Basketball team staved off defeat and held on for a two point 63-61 victory over visiting Dickinson State University.
Despite shooting only 38.7% in the first half compared to the Blue Hawks 43.5%, the Vikings led by five points at halftime 29-24. They would need all of those points and an efficient offense in the second half to hold off Dickinson State and come away with their fourth win of the season.
The Vikings shot 11-21 (52.4%) in the second half including four of seven from the three point line in the second half. The Blue Hawks were able to keep within striking distance as Valley City State struggled from the free throw line, unable to put the game away with only 8-16 from the charity stripe in the second half.
Sekani Milligen once again led the way for Valley City State scoring a game high 22 points. Milligen was 7-18 from the floor and shot 6-12 (50%) from the three point line. Aaron Duske and Gus Kueber added 15 and 11 points respectively to round out the double digit scorers for Valley City State. Milligen also led the Vikings in rebounding pulling down seven caroms in the game.
The win moves the #24 ranked Valley City State Men's team to 4-1 on the season. Next up, the Vikings will travel to Dickinson over Thanksgiving break for a two game tournament facing Rocky Mountain College and Dickinson State next Friday and Saturday.
